    • I have been a Member of KPFK 40 years
    • I worked in Membership including Director for 19 years, I know how to make money and enlarge the listenership
    • Folks have not heard of KPFK, I know how to use Marketing to make us known
    • I had a show for 10 years
    • I was a board-op
    • I was Front Desk receptionist, mail sorter & operator
    • I ran the Phone room and took pledges for years
    • I talked to listeners in our phone room, I read the comments on the incoming mail, I tracked the income during Fundrives, and later reports, I took listener complaint calls, I know what they want, especially their Thank-you Gifts as promised, and their favorite shows All our board members should have Some experience working at a public radio station, and not just be
    • wanting power or a show
    • I would like to see our On-Line presence increase, for the younger ones, and especially so voters know the board members who they want to elect
    • I taught English as a 2nd language to Spanish speakers, and I speak some Spanish
    • I’m for board members being elected by the KPFK Members
    • I’m against selling off a station, I’m for expanding our reach geographically, and easing our New York station into including a showcase for folks from all over the world and drawing from their ranks (also KPFK)
    • I love the diversity and the scholarship on KPFK All our stations should share our best programming, carefully considering the uniqueness of each station
    • We should keep a balance, be the best of both, between being a company, and being a community program
    • We should keep a balance between being “Lefty” and giving culture, music, and new ideas air time
    • We sometimes take a smug, superior, or narrow view of those less “Lefty” than ourselves, and the more Lefty should govern us, and be on our air, but they are “all part of the Struggle” too, and we should respect them and include them
    • And we should respect and be loyal to our elder and richer donors
    • ‘Every show and staff department should have at least one intern of color’
    • We all care about Pacifica, we should discuss and build together, not divide and conquer

    Answers to Candidate Questionnaire

    1. What experience, connections, skills or traits would you bring to the local station board to advance the station's mission?
    2. Having been the Membership Director I know everything about what prospective listener-sponsors want and need and how to make the money that supports the programming and all the other workers that make a station, non-profit, 112 thousand watts.

    3. What do you appreciate and value in the station's current operations?
    4. This station has been being fine tuned to the needs of our communities since 1959. Of course there is always room for improvement. And the world and the station have become more and more aware of the problems of humanity, nukes, viruses, global warming, etc. And this station is responding.

    5. What would you like to see improved or changed in the station's current operations?
    6. We should get a big on-line presence to supplement our programming, and maybe video, and be transparent about our Mission, our staff and volunteers, and programmers, and board candidates, so that we can elect good ones. Come into the computer age.

    7. Describe what you anticipate would be your top three priorities or areas of focus if you were elected to the local station board.
    8. Studying to put out the fires/votes that come up, push for a better on-line transparency, etc., getting to know my current fellow board members, my manager and staff, sharing my money-raising Qualifications, studying to vote on the budget, hearing the folks that want to talk to me

    9. Sustainability is an important part of any nonprofit operation. What are your thoughts on how the board can help to improve the station's financial footing?
    10. Use my Membership Director experience to get money and sponsors and prospective listeners and sponsors and grow our on-line presence, and use my marketing talent to try to reconnect with lapsed subscribers, and bequests, and endowments, maybe qualify and write grants.

    11. Is there anything else you would like prospective voters to know?
    12. I was previously an English as a Second Language teacher, and as it happened my students were Spanish speakers. My BA is in English. I speak enough Spanish to chat with folks. I made it my business to go to local and national Pacifica board meetings and sometimes comment. I worked on the first PCs
