Statement: |
I am an avid believer in the power of KPFK-which represents to me the purest last vestige we have of a readily accessible broadcast of freedom of ideas and expression.
I have dedicated my life to education of our youth with a 20 year career in CA public schools. I am currently employed in management at an LAUSD conversion charter, where I also serve as Chair of the Board. I can say with certainty public school is ground zero to witness the sociological effects of media on our culture.
KPFK stands out above the others as an ideal to me, a true challenger to status quo and corporate brainwashing, and I want to help others tune in.
Know I am only a one year member but a vocal advocate for this station now. I strive to focus on fiscal responsibility in a creative way in order to work with listeners and employee stakeholders to pull this station from it's current struggle.

-
What would you like to see improved or changed in the station's current operations?
Strong leadership starting at the Board level to re-invigorate and rebrand the station and position it for future success. More streamlined promotion of the station's content. Less need for on air fundraising drives (they drown out the station's quality/message).
-
Describe what you anticipate would be your top three priorities or areas of focus if you were elected to the local station board.
- Strong leadership
- Fiscal responsibility and health
- Unification of stakeholder groups
- Promotion of excellent programming
- Revise the KPFK programming brand/package
-
Sustainability is an important part of any nonprofit operation. What are your thoughts on how the board can help to improve the station's financial footing?
If this Board is in charge of doing the best for the station, then the Board is in charge overseeing funds must be raised. Also, valuing all of the assets including employees and listeners is an absolute must. When I joined, there was mention of KPFK member events, however I haven’t heard of any? I would focus specifically on promoting quality events for fundraising harnessing the wealth of content/providers and archives KPFK has on hand. There is so much people want to hear on this station, and my goal would be to work to make this wealth accessible and increase the visibility profile.
-
Is there anything else you would like prospective voters to know?
I will do all I can to protect and preserve KPFK.
