Statement:

My name is Jeanine Rohn. I am a community activist, an independent film producer and an educator. I am an active member in many progressive organizations such as PDA, ADA and DSA. I have successfully organized many outreach campaigns in my district for both progressive candidates as well as progressive issues. In 2016, I served as the canvassing captain in the only congressional district in Los Angeles county that flipped for Bernie Sanders.

In my professional life, I am committed to storytelling that is strong and thought provoking, that serves to enlighten as well as empower its audience. I have produced award-winning films about the LGBTQ community, green card soldiers, the elderly and poverty. I’ve served on the review committee for the International Documentary Association’s IDA Awards, have been a guest speaker at UCLA, Art Institute of Chicago – and am adjunct faculty at Pasadena’s Art Center College of Design graduate film program. I am a proud union/ guild member of the Director’s Guild and Producer’s Guild of America.

I have been an avid listener of KPFK for over 7 years. It is definitely an extension of my community activism and the progressive movement that is such a big part of my life. KPFK is a beacon – especially in these times where our communities thirst for honest broadcasting. My cable station recently discontinued the Free Speech TV channel. KPFK and it’s programming is there for me and all the audience who’s interests and passions are getting squeezed out of mainstream media. Other radio stations don’t even comes close to filling that void. Most vulnerable communities aren’t always aware there is a void of real news and programming. However, I know through my community work that they know the difference when presented with a progressive alternative. They overwhelmingly respond when their issues are being addressed. So I also believe with as much KPFK already does, there is so much more that can be done to reach these communities. We need to get to those new listeners and empower them. KPFK and Pacifica radio is part of the progressive ground-swell taking place in our country. I’ve participated in the Community Outreach committee at KPFK. I believe the there is great potential to substantially grow it’s audience through a strong community outreach as well as a social media initiative. I have experience to bring to both efforts with the background in organizing within the community and producing effective media.

I’m running because I’m dedicated to bringing all the passion and experience I have to the KPFK radio station – in the hopes of elevating it to it’s full potential. I greatly appreciate your support. Thank you -
