Boston born, I have been a resident of Los Angeles for more than 20 years. My radio career has spanned more than 3 decades in four cities with the industry’s leading broadcasters, CBS Radio, Clear channel and now Pandora Internet Radio. I built my career in ad sales, from helping small local advertisers build their business, to creating cross-platform marketing strategies for national brands. My expertise has been in helping advertisers adapt in a swiftly changing media marketplace and to bring clients and ad agencies over the bridge from off-line to on-line radio. I have built a personal and professional brand here in the LA radio advertising community that will be a useful resource for Pacifica’s KPFK board. I hope my many years of experience working in successful radio stations will make me a strong asset as you review GM and PD candidates.
Marina Del Rey and LA’s Westside is my home. I have served on the Resource Board of SAMOSHEL, Santa Monica’s largest resident homeless shelter where I currently do regular volunteer work engaging 1:1 with the residents and staff. My heart’s calling is toward the homeless community here; I am an advocate and a hand-raiser volunteering wherever I can. I recently jumped on board with Venice Community Housing (VCH) to help with their resident programs and brought the LWV to SAMOSHEL for voter registration and a tutorial on the 2018 CA Props. I want to help KPFK speak to and speak for LA’s low-income and under served communities.
This year, I had the honor of spending three days with Al Gore, completing his Climate Change Reality Leadership Training. There I received intensive education on his ‘Inconvenient Truth’ narrative, learned climate science from world renowned scientists and professionals, and networked with over 2000 climate industry leaders and advocates. The most important learnings for me was climate injustice which connects to my calling to work with homeless and low income communities.
What I bring to KPFK’s board is my extensive experience in broadcast and digital radio and my 30 year network of professionals in the radio industry. I bring my compassion for the under served community and my experience in volunteering with area shelters and homeless services. I bring my education and training with Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project and am committed to helping KPFK expand their programming and content in this critical area.
In the past two years I have marched for women, for common sense gun control, for family reunification and for the planet. This is a critical time in our country and a critical moment for KPFK to help our democratic voices be heard. A strong board can help KPFK find and define its role in a very competitive radio marketplace.
In my free time, I indulge in my favorite hobby which is baking, making birthday cakes for homeless kids in shelters with www.Forgoodnesscakes.org
